Georgia Man Sentenced for Offering IRS Employee $30,000 to Falsify Audit Results

On May 14, 2019, in the Northern District of Georgia, Magdaleno Garcia Alonso was sentenced for bribery of a public official. Alonso had previously been indicted for the offense in November 2018 and had pled guilty in February 2019.According to court documents, on or about September 19, 2018, Alonso offered an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) revenue agent $30,000 with the intent of inducing the revenue agent to commit an act that was in violation of his or her lawful duties. Specifically, Alonso offered the revenue agent $30,000 to falsify the audit results of Alonso’s personal Federal income tax returns and the returns of Acworth Georgia Concrete, Incorporated, for Tax Years 2015 and 2016.Alonso was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment followed by one year of supervised release.
